Icons
The icon set is designed to help with quick identification and tracing of where and what your circuits go to. Working in one direction, if you’re troubleshooting a circuit in your living room, you can quickly see which circuits go to Level 1, Northeast quadrant, for example, and zero in quickly on your target circuit. Or if you’re at the panel and see a breaker is tripped, you can quickly see by the icons which levels and quadrants of the house are affected, in addition to the detailed description notes. The 2-level layout (Basement and Level 1) includes all possible combinations parked at the bottom so you can set it up for your house.
*Contact me if you’d like me to make up a custom icon set for you for a small fee (the 4-level layout would have something like 16,000 possible icon combinations, so I can’t generate a full set;). You could also purchase my icon template/system, or whip some up yourself to drop in there.
Use Cases
Having detailed documentation of your system can save time troubleshooting or tracing circuits, or could prevent mistakes or misunderstanding. Maybe you just want to understand and document your system for your own use, or it may be helpful for an electrician coming in to troubleshoot or repair.
I’ve worked in a lot of old and new homes, and it’s very common to find out-of-code wiring, non-standard changes, or inaccurate notes on the breaker panel door. Feel free to contact me if you’d like help mapping your home electrical system, tracing circuits, custom icon sets for your layout, or any other technical documentation.
